Richardson's Flowers, Heartfelt Thanks to Medford, NJ

Counting your blessings at Thanksgiving is a wonderful tradition. I am thankful for my wonderful family, my friends, living in the USA, and simply enjoying life! During this season of celebration, I would like my customers to know I am thankful for their valued business and support. Richardson's Flowers has been in lovely Medford NJ for 31 years! Our customers have supported us through good times and bad. When the shop burned to the ground in 1987, our customers sent letters and cards offering their concern and support. Many of our customers often take the time to call or stop by to tell us how delighted they were about the flowers they sent as gifts or received from an admirer. Several of our customers bring us little tokens of appreciation including candy, cookies and even wine! I am grateful for their business, support and friendship.

On Monday, November 16th, our shop was forced to close for the day due a problem with the alarm system in the Ironside Shopping center. I forwarded the calls from the shop to my cell phone. Every customer I spoke with was very understanding and wished me well. Even if they had to purchase flowers elsewhere that day, they told me they would continue to use my flower shop in the future. I felt humbled by their loyalty and compassion, and I was thankful for their kind words.

During the day, I received a call from a customer that truly amazed me. I answered my cell and she said, "Is this Richardson's Flowers?" "Yes, how may I help you?" I replied. She told me she was calling from inside the flower shop and wanted to know where I was. She told me the shop was dark and no one was there, but the front door was unlocked. "Oh my!" I forgot to lock the door! I told her I would have the jeweler next door take care of it. She asked if it was OK if she purchased a gift while she was there. I found the whole scenario oddly amusing! "Sure!" I said. "If the police catch you in there, just call me and I will try to explain!" The next morning I found the money for her purchase with a note by the register! She even calculated the tax to her total bill! Too funny! Hmmm...perhaps we should leave the doors open every night! Her honesty is a huge testament to Medford NJ and the surrounding area! There truly are wonderful people in the world and sometimes we only reflect on the bad things in life.

Don't forget to be thankful for the simple things in life on Thanksgiving. Richardson's Flowers can help you express your love and gratitude with an exquisite fall centerpiece. Our florals get rave reviews and are sure to grace your Thanksgiving table for the holiday. Thank someone special today and always count your blessings!

Father's Day .....Dianne of Richardson's Flowers Honors her Father

Father's Day is Sunday, June 21st...a day to honor our fathers and remind them how special they are. Remember your father with a special gift from Richardson's Flowers.  We have a wonderful selection of florals, plants and gift baskets to make your Dad smile! Our most popular selections are featured here:

We would like you to share your favorite memory of your father and enter our contest to win free flowers for a year! Just submit your story to: The staff at Richardson's Flowers will select our favorite story and announce the winner on Monday, June 22nd. (See Details Below)

To honor my father's memory on this special day, I will share a few of my favorite memories with you My father was the best Daddy a little girl could have. I was a real "Daddy's girl" and a genuine "Navy Brat!" I worshiped the ground my father walked on. As a little girl, I can remember going everywhere with him in his 1957 Buick. I always stood next to him as he drove, and it's amazing that I survived without ever being strapped into a car seat! Times sure have changed! As the years passed, I spent weekends with my father watching every sporting event known to man on TV! I just wanted to be near him, and if learning to love sports was the way to win his heart, I was in the game! My father had the wittiest personality and could always find humor in any situation. My favorite memory of my father was his request to the priest for us both to wear roller skates down the 250 foot aisle at my wedding! We didn't get to skate down the aisle, but I felt like a princess having my father by my side as I took those memorable steps to meet my groom! My father was quite a character and I adored him and cherish our memorable times together.

My father was a 20 year Naval officer. He joined the Navy when he was just 17 and retired at 37 as a Chief Petty Officer. My father is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He passed away on August 15, 2001. Every year at Father's Day, I honor his memory by sending a beautiful floral tribute. This year, I will be sending an exquisite floral wreath to be placed at his gravesite. I will visit my father's gravesite in the early fall. I always take beautiful flowers with me in a cemetery cone that can be easily inserted into the ground.  Did you know that we can send floral tributes to your father's gravesite anywhere in the country? Call us to make special arrangements to honor your father's memory with a tribute of glorious flowers this Father's Day.

I would like to share with you a letter I wrote to Dear Abby shortly after my father passed away. During his long battle with cancer, Dear Abby's column featured many stories about "Pennies From Heaven." My father always complained that he never had money, because my mother wouldn't give him any! I made sure that I put money in his pocket before his funeral, and when I visit his gravesite, I always leave lots of pennies! To this day, I always find pennies whenever I am feeling especially blue or discouraged. Keep tossing those pennies from Heaven, Dad, and know that I cherish your memory...I love you...and wish you a Happy Father's Day in Heaven!

Rosa Parks was the mother of bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama that launched the Civil Rights Movement.

Chinese family names are often formed (begin) with a sign that means "mother". It's a nice way of honoring their moms long past.

The ancient Greeks celebrated Mother's Day in spring, like we do. They used to honor Rhea, "mother of the gods" with honey-cakes and fine drinks and flowers at dawn. Sounds like the beginnings of the Mother's Day tradition of breakfast in bed!

Mother Shipton was a Prophetess in Britain 500 years ago. She could see the future, and predicted that another Queen Elizabeth would sit on the throne of England. (QE II)

Japan's Imperial family trace their descent from Omikami Amaterasu, the Mother of the World.

Julia Ward Howe wrote the Battle Hymm of the Republic and was a staunch fighter for women's rights. She staged an unusual protest for peace in Boston, by celebrating a special day for mothers. Julia wanted to call attention to the need for peace by pointing out mothers who were left alone in the world without their sons and husbands after the bloody Franco-Prussian War.

Hindu scripture credits the Great Mother, Kali Ma, with the invention of writing through alphabets, pictographs and beautiful sacred images.

George Washington once said, "My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her."

The Greek word "meter" and the Sanskrit word "mantra" mean both mother and measurement.

Mother Goose is one of the most popular of all children's entertainers. Her books and stories have been loved for many generations.

Native American Indian women have long been honored with the name, "Life of the Nation" for their gift of motherhood to the tribes.

Ancient Egyptians believed that "Bast" was the mother of all cats on Earth, and that cats were sacred animals.

Rose Kennedy once said, "I looked on child-rearing not only as a work of love and duty, but as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world, and one that demanded the best that I could bring it."

Buddha honored mothers when he said, "As a mother, even at the risk of her own life, loves and protects her child, so let a man cultivate love without measure toward the whole world."

Mother's Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world. Australia, Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, China, Thailand, all have special celebrations to honor Mothers, but not in the same way or on the same day as the United States.

In the Bible, Eve is credited with being the "Mother of All the Living."

During the 1600's, England celebrated a day called "Mothering Sunday." Servants would go home to see their families, bringing cakes and sweets to their moms. This custom was called "going a-mothering". Each mother would receive a simnel-cake (Latin for "fine flour) and mother's would give a blessing to their children.

Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia began the campaign that brought about the official observance of Mother's Day in the United states. Her mother died, and Anna wanted all mothers to be remembered. She asked that white carnations be the official mother's day symbol. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed the orders that made Mother's Day a national holiday.

Just nine years later, Anna filed a lawsuit in an effort to stop the over- commercialization of Mother's Day. She lost her fight. Now, cards, letters, candy and dinners out mark Mother's Day for most families. Anna had hoped for a day of reflection and quiet prayer by families, thanking God for all that mothers had done.

Mother Earth is also known as "Terra Firma". That title is a Latin translation of some lines from one of the Greek poet, Homer's, greatest poems.

Forever In My Heart...Brent Passed April 15, 2009

My beloved Brent passed away on April 15, 2009. I would like to thank my wonderful family and friends for your love and support during this difficult time in my life. I am blessed to be surrounded by your comfort during my time of sorrow. Thank you for your prayers, calls, e-mails and cards.Your continuous thoughts and prayers have meant more to me than words could ever express.

I am sharing a page from my private journal that I wrote the night that Brent died. Brent & I met on eHarmony in May 2008 and fell hopelessly in love! Ah! You really can find true love online! Although our time together was brief, our romance was a true love story. "Our song" was by Don Henley..."Taking You Home" and we used to sing to each other these words from the song..."And this love...is like nothing I have ever known!" I was truly blessed to have Brent come into my life...he taught me how to love...truly love someone...unconditionally! Brent will live in my heart forever...

MY PRIVATE JOURNAL APRIL 15, 2009

There was an urgency in my drive to see you today, baby. After speaking with your sister last night, in my heart, I knew your time on earth was fleeting. How I prayed you wouldn't leave me in this world, all alone.

I arrived at the hospital at 11AM. When I called to see you, the ICU nurse told me I would have to wait until the visiting hours began at noon. I went back out to my car. The air was chilly and it was a miserable, rainy day. I sat in my car and read my mail to pass the time. I actually put a little makeup on...I wanted to look especially pretty for you.

At 11:45PM I walked back to the hospital...longing to be near you, to touch you, hold you, kiss you, comfort you. I was allowed into your room exactly at noon. I performed my normal routine of washing up before entering your room and tip-toed over to whisper in your ear that your "Queen" was by your side. Today I pulled up a chair and sat next to you, gently caressing your arm and holding your hand. I spoke softly to you...over and over again...telling you how much I loved and adored you. You looked peaceful, but your look conveyed a sense of your wanting me to be near you now. Somehow...I knew that you were leaving me. Oddly, I was at peace. In my heart, I knew I had to be strong for you.

I played Don Henley's CD and sang "our song" to you..."and this love is like nothing I have ever known!" No words could be more true. Our love is special...genuine...everlasting. I apologized for singing badly and laughed. I told you I knew I wasn't a good singer, but I was going to sing to you anyway! Perhaps you found my singing to be the sweetest sound you ever heard! I sang every song, tears streaming down my cheeks...more often, than not. I played your CD, with all the songs you wrote and sang all those songs to you, too. How I love to listen to you play the guitar and sing harmony. I have listened to your CD a million times, and now I realize how grateful I am to have your voice recorded...I fear I will never hear you tell me you love me again.

I stayed with you until 3PM...singing away...all the while telling you about how I will take care of you and love you forever. I was still praying for a miracle. We only had one interruption during the visit. Your dad, mom and your sister, Amy came to visit. I left the room while they stayed with you, which was only about 15 minutes. I was so glad I had taken the day off from the flower shop to spend with you and I didn't want to share you with anyone. The nurses told me it was time to leave at 3PM...

I went to Perkins to get some coffee and a bowl of chicken soup. I arrived back at the hospital at 5PM. No sooner had I pulled into the parking lot...my cell phone rang...it was your brother, Jeff. Jeff told me he needed to speak with me. I didn't even realize he was in New Jersey and when he told me he was waiting for me in the conference room, I knew that I was going to lose you. I bravely went into the conference room and Jeff was kind to me. He told me that your condition was failing, your organs were shutting down and it was time to say goodbye. He told me your family wanted me to go in and be with you and after I said my good-byes they would come and be with you. I did as I was told, but how I longed to be the one with you when you went to the light!

I was so brave, honey...you would be proud of me. I cried and cried as I came to your side. I closed the curtain in the room, so I could truly be alone with you...one last time. I kissed you a million times and told you how much I loved you. I told you how you were the love of my life and what joy you had brought to me. I told you I knew you didn't believe in God, but that I did. I told you to go toward the light. I told you that I would always love you...forever. I told you I wouldn't say goodbye to you...that I knew I would be with you again one day. I kissed you all over your face and forehead and then I kissed your lips, even though you were still on the ventilator. I kissed your lips so many times and gently touched your face, your arm and held your swollen hand. The hardest thing I've ever done in my life, baby, was to walk out that door. I turned to gaze at you one more time and blew you a kiss. I broke down in the nurses arms. They were so very kind. I knew I had to be brave and I knew walking out that ICU unit that you would be in my heart forever.

I finally arrive home and the calls begin to come in. My family knows the news first and Jess arrives to be with me. We talk about everything and we are both so sad. I am tired...mentally exhausted. Your brother calls at 12:30PM to tell me you died at 11:58PM. I thank him for calling. I needed to know that your journey to heaven was not long. So many emotions, baby...so much heartache...so much love and adoration for you. I will find peace in my heart and my memories of you will live on forever. You were the love of my life, Brent. I will cherish my memories of you and us forever and ever. Rest in peace, my darling.

My Love, Brent!

I know this is a blog for my flower shop, but I just wanted you all to know the real person behind the day to day operation of Richardson's Flowers...that's me, Dianne Richardson-Conda. I am trying my best to operate my shop and help my boyfriend, Brent, battle for his life. For the past 10 days, Brent has been in the hospital in the ICU unit. He is battling for his life with sepsis, which is a severe infection in his bloodstream. Brent has battled with diabetes since the age of 24. As you can imagine, this is heart wrenching. I love him more than words can say and do not want him to leave this world. It is way too soon. We have a lot of living and loving to do.

Please say a prayer for Brent...that his will to live is strong and that he continues to fight to get well. He is the love of my life and I can't bear the thought of being without him. He is the most thoughtful, loving and caring man I have ever met. We met on eHarmony and fell in love just writing to each other online. Our love blossomed into a fairy tale romance when we finally met on September 2, 2008.

Thank you for your love and support.

~Dianne~

The kids and their moms are excited and want every little blossom to be perfect! We carry a wide variety of beauitful flowers to create the perfect prom corsage, hand-tied bouquet or boutonniere. We also feature a  complete selection of gems & Fitz bracelets to add a touch of sparkle & glitz! We love to add bling to our prom masterpieces!

Richardson's Flowers has been around for more than 30 years, so time and time again, we have seen our prom moms come back several years after prom for their daughter's wedding flowers. They tell us how much they appreciated the extra time that we took to ensure the color match with the daughter's prom flowers and they trust our attention to detail for their bridal bouquet and all the wedding flowers.
