Can you believe this weather? How flowers can make it better.
Usually it's January that is long dark and dreary but this year it's April. This weather is unbelievable! It is snowing! I don’t know how people get through days like this without flowers. There is talk of canceling the Boston Marathon?! Here are a few suggestions on how to use flowers to boost your spirits.
When buying cut flowers choose for color flowers are available in bright, beautiful, hues. Hot pink roses, vivid orange carnations and bright green bells of Ireland make a bouquet that would brighten the dullest day. Gerbera in hot colors, scarlet, lemon and tangerine, will chase away the bad weather blues. Gerbera should be firm and fresh when purchased. To ensure a long vase life, Re-cut the stems when you get home and place in a properly mixed solution of floral food.
If your taste for flowers is more sophisticated try pairing yellow mini calla lilies with bear grass and bright pincushion protea. The yellow and orange will bring instant sunshine to your home.
If you want an air of romance choose voluptuous deep velvet roses (black magic) Delicate pink ranunculas and flirty bouvardia and place them in a vase on your nightstand.
Spring flowers are in season so you will see daffodils, tulips, iris, etc. in abundance. Buy them by the bunch and put them in every room of your house. Cut the stems one length and place them in interesting containers such as: square vases, bubble bowls or rectangular vases.
For an earthy, herbal, fruity, floral fragrance try some scented geraniums. The soft velvety leaves are very fragrant as cut foliage and as a houseplant.
If you don’t feel comfortable arranging your own flowers ask your florist to create a hand tied bouquet. These European inspired designs just need to be cut to length and placed in your vase. Instant enjoyment!
