Easter is this Sunday

Elegance, beauty and unbelievable fragrance. That is what you get when you bring a lily plant into your home. The greenhouses here at Nunans are stocked with lilies for your Easter gift giving. They are easy to care for indoors and most varieties can be planted outdoors to enjoy again in the garden. Lilies have a long history and lots of botanical relatives including alliums, fritillaria, grape hyacinths, and tulips.

The lily traditionally associated with Easter is Lilium longiflorum, a native to the islands off Formosa. It offers large, pure white deep-throated flowers with an incredible fragrance set on strong plants with glossy dark green foliage.

To select a healthy lily for use indoors, look for a plant that has strong stems with lots of foliage. The buds should all be well developed and some of the flowers may already be open. Sometimes the pollen sacs will have been removed. This is done to prevent staining the petals and doesn't affect the quality of the plants. The pollen will stain fabric, too, so be careful. When you buy a lily from Nunans you are buying the best. To order flowers visit us at www.nunantheflorist.com
