16 July 10 11:00 AM | butera | 1 Comments

Vince will present a floral design program on July 27 to benefit the Swan's Island Library.

The program "The Art of Floral Arrangement...Influences, Trends, Inspirations" will begin at 7pm, and feature today's trends in floral design.

The program is part of the library's summer lecture series and is in cooperation with the Swan's Island Garden Club. two years ago, the old library burned to the ground leaving only ashes and a stone foundation. The new building is slated to begin construction soon. Money raised from this event will benefit the library's gardening book section.

A $5 donation is requested at the door, and the floral designs will be auctioned after the presentation.

Some of the fresh floral product will be from Swan's Islands gardens...making the program very improvisational!

The 2010 wedding season is now officially upon us! Generally from the beginning of April through November, Butera The Florist will produce wedding flowers for between 75 & 100 brides. Some of them elaborate events, and others small and intimate...but all very special to the bride and us. During 2010, we will produce weddings at some of the areas most popular venues, such as; Heritage Hills, Box Hill at Regent's Glen, The Country Club of York, The Yorktowne Hotel, Stone Mill Inn, Outdoor Country Club, and many more

Today's brides  are very individual and eclectic...and floral accents need to co-ordinate and highlight each bride's desires. Butera The Florist is highly regarded as the York Pennsylvania region's finest and most sought after wedding florist. Vince Butera AIFD, PFCI not only keeps up with today's trends, but is also a teacher and innovator for the professional floral industry. As the primary bridal consultant and floral artist, he guides clients through the many decisions to create the special "look" for her wedding day; one that matches both the clients desires and budget. We believe flowers are a major accessory to the gowns, venues, and all else the bride has planned...able to transform the look & feel into her own personality. Be sure to check out our photo gallery on this blog to view a wide array of wedding floral ideas.

We see some dynamic trends in our upcoming  wedding events. The two overall theme/concepts are what I would term "Very Chic and Elegant" and "Relaxed Comfort"

Very Chic and Elegant weddings include such elements as exquisite dresses;uniformity or slightly varies styles; jewel tone colors with dark accents ; rich warm tone colors ; varies hues with depth and texture; monochromatic color choices ; classic/stylish floral choices such as roses, orchids, calla, stephanotis, etc; dense handtieds or flowing waterfall styles ; floral accents dripping with romance .

Relaxed Comfort weddings tend to incorporate elements such as: shorter dresses that are soft and flowing; extreme varied styles to fit bridesmaids personal style; colors might be bright and bold or soft sherbert shades; bouquets tend to be handtied, fun and sassy , with assorted blooms included Gerbera, roses, lizianthus, dahlia, peony and hydrangeas ; some would tend to a more organic design style including berries, branches, and other natural elements .

As you can imagine, there is a broad range of ideas to blend together to form the perfect match for an individual look. While we produce a large number of wedding events annually, we look at each one individually and attentively - NO selection guides, NO menues, NO catalogs! Our consultations are a time to personally brainstorm and generate ideas with you to find your perfect match.

Dates for 2010 weddings are filling quickly, call us now to schedule your free, personal consultation with Vince Butera AIFD, PFCI and staff or to reserve your wedding date with Butera The Florist...York's premier wedding florist.

Vince designs for the Halifax PA Garden Club
11 June 09 11:12 AM | butera | 0 Comments

Vince Butera AIFD, PFCI was honored to be the featured speaker for the Halifax PA Garden Club for their 50th anniversary celebration on June 9, 2009. "Edutaining" is what I love to do...fusing together educating and entertaining my audience. So, in the one hour time span I chose to create six different fresh floral designs right before their eyes. Starting out with a vivid colored pave piece of sunflowers, roses, hydrangea, thistle, carnations, and more.      After completing the fresh design and explaining it's many uses, I changed it quickly into a great party design by adding a structure of river cane and angel wire.

Another design was an upright linear piece featuring pincushion protea, liatris and orchids.

Next came a low/linear with a strong focal point of pink protea & green hypericum with extensions of liatris, eucaluptus, pink waxflower and foliage.

The upright rectangular design captured their attention... a pink glass square vase was filled with foam, then long equesitum was added to define the form, then accented with liatris and bright pink Gerber Daisies along with purple Trechelium as a pillowing base. After finishing the piece, drama was added with the bouncy look of yellow crespedia along with green lilly grass piercing the equesitum. A very fun & youthful look!

As a finale, Vince created a "tension" design in an oval metal vessel. Aspidistra was laid across the foam and accented with curls of the leaf to add strong movement from one side to the other. Then a stem of cymbidium spray was inserted, arching out of the focal area where three red roses were sunk. Dark purple dendrobium sprays bounced off one side while lily grass danced off the other. The last insertion was three blades of lily grass with a single dendrobium bloom glued toward the end.

During design shows such as this, Vince not only designs, but also discusses the product, explains the elements and principles of floral design in use, and CERTAINLY has fun with the crowd.
