Introducing Gerfloria - A New Gerbera Daisy
Today, Terra Nigra announced they will reveal their new Gerfloria® gerbera daisy at their Hortifair in the Netherlands on October 10, 2007. After a 12-year breeding program, Terra Nigra developed a fancier gerbera daisy. But, the fancy is not in the flower--unlike standard gerbs with smooth stems, the Gerfloria has stems decorated with small leaves. This provides a more organic look in arrangements, and is a return to the real natural look of gerbera daisies. The head of the Gerfloria is still the classic gerbera look, so we don't expect this to be popular in bridal bouquets, where the stems are likely to be hidden. In arrangements where the stems are more exposed, this new gerb can add an extra degree of fullness and additional texture. The Gerfloria is expected to be available in the fall of 2008.
