"Polar Star" White Rose wins Best in Show
Polar Star from Eufloria Flowers won "Best in Show" in the Outstanding Varieties Competition at the Society of American Florists 2006 Convention (held in Naples, FL). This is the second year in a row a rose has won this honor. Because of the rigors of shipping from South America, white roses are rarely entered in the competition, but Eufloria's location in California, plus their practice of packing their roses vertically in Proconas (see http://floristblogs.com/photos/bloomery/picture49.aspx) means their roses arrive in near perfect condition.
Polar Star is Eufloria's newest white rose, which they put into production only a few months ago. It's characterized by a large white head with hints of cream that opens into a classic rose bloom. The stem is strong but not woody, and features small, dark green and shiny leaves. Petals are smooth, and open rounded. Eufloria plans to increase production, especially with this new honor.
Competitions such as these are great for the industry. Winning this competition brings a lot of visibility to the grower. Their need to ship their product and have it arrive in the best condition reminds them we need their products in the same state. Eufloria took a big chance even entering a white rose, and the fact that they won the Best in Show means they really have the shipping thing figured out. In fact, all 18 varieties Eufloria entered won a ribbon in the competition. We had a chance to spend some time with Chad Nelson, the sales manager from Eufloria, and we'll bring you some more of their amazing flowers.
