Flower Fashion Accessories for a Birthday Party

Many of the floral designs we create at Avante Gardens Florist are custom and unique for each event. While our eCommerce site allows shoppers to browse through lots of arrangement choices, we frequently find that fresh flower designs for special events and entertaining need one-of-a-kind solutions. So I'm going to share the consultation process and show the resulting flower arrangements from a recent birthday party order.

The Inspiration

The event was a surprise luncheon for a group of 13 attendees. Our client provided us with a sample invitation (vivid yellow bordered paper with hot pink and orange polka dots), gave us the table dimensions and let us know the formality level of the event.

Our client found some fun fashion-inspired wire forms - shoes, purses, hats and small matching wire baskets - and asked us to incorporate them into both the centerpiece setting and party favors.    

(Note: Most florists are happy to work in your own containers.  Just provide them well enough in advance of the event so the proper flowers and floral supplies are available.) 

The Flowers 

Being Spring, we immediately thought of using seasonal flowers in the theme colors and decided to feature ranunculus. Their interesting textures - tissue-like, feminine and gardeny - and bright blossoms were available in the perfect hues for this color scheme. Rather than using standard florist 'greens', accents of chartreuse hanging amarathus were added as a contrasting form and texture. The bright green also adds a nice visual punch in contrast to the deep green shades of the moss.

We lined each wire form with premium sheet moss to conceal the 'mechanics' (flower construction media) so as not to detract from overall look.

Working with moss can create some interesting issues when used with water since the moss will 'wick' the water and cause it to transfer from the design to the table top. (And no one wants flowers that drip all over the table, so we use some specialty techniques in these instances.)   

 The Final Designs 

The centerpiece groups and favors were picked up by our customer on Saturday morning. Her comment? "They are perfect!"
