Two National Floral Design Competition Finalists!
More great news as we learned this week that two of Avante Gardens' designers, Nid Indravudh Vilailuck and Lenka Dostalova, have been selected among the ten finalists in the 2007 Flowers& Magazine competition.
Professional florists from the US and Canada were invited to submit photos based on a selected theme, with this year's being "Gorgeous!". Each entry featured fresh flowers and needed to be available for purchase for less than $75.
Flowers& will feature the top ten finalists in its July issue and then the more than 40,000 readers will vote for their favorites - with the winning designer receiving a $1000 first prize.
Nid, a finalist for the second year in a row, created a truly unique and original wedding bouquet for last year's competition.
The entire bridal bouquet was created in a hollowed out 'King' protea base and featured groupings of blush pink roses, pink tulips, Hawaiian dendrobium orchids, pink mini callas, blush pink anthuriums, fresh sterling range and Maiden Hair fern. Finish details included crocheted silver wires accented with pink and clear crystals, which surrounded the protea base and dramatic bouquet handle.
Lenka joined our design team in November 2006 and this is her first competition. She is a native of Czechoslovakia, a former student of The Southern California School of Floral Design, and she excels at contemporary arranging, especially tropical and linear compositions.
As with last year, I won't publish photos of the entries until voting is completed. The winners will be announced in the November issue of Flowers&.
Congratulations Nid and Lenka!
