Flowers for Melinda Doolittle

Melinda Doolittle may not have won this year's American Idol but two things are for sure; she has incredibly loyal and generous fans, and she received a dressing room full of flowers for tonight's season finale.

My husband Phil got a call last week from fellow florist and AIFD member, Dennis Harris of Zimlich the Florist of Mobile, AL asking if we could make a special delivery to the Kodak Theater this week. He put us in touch with members of Melinda's fan club, the Backups, who wanted to send their good wishes in the form of flowers, gifts and cards.

The group requested designs in reds and purples (Melinda's favorite color) and left the rest up to us. We incorporated a memory book, DVD set, and other gifts and delivered them to her Kodak Theater dressing room this morning.  She was on stage rehearsing so our delivery team didn't get to see her reaction - but judging from the backstage responses, we're sure the Backups helped make tonight a night Melinda will never forget.    

A special thanks to Greg, Barb and the fantastic Backups.  Like them, Phil and I think Melinda's voice was the best and brightest on this season's American Idol and we look forward to hearing much more from her in the future.
