Anniversary Flowers

Calls often start with "I'd like to send flowers to my wife for her anniversary" and I usually chuckle to myself thinking "weren't you there, too?".

Anniversaries are one of the most popular occasions to send flowers and this last week we helped with a few notable celebrations.

One was for a 50th anniversary party taking place at the spectacular Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. The flowers were carefully selected by the honoree couple's daughter, reflecting their Japanese heritage. Using an Ikebana influeced design style, we featured a variety of orchids, roses, protea and foliages and finished the arrangements with golden branches and Origami cranes, which had been lovingly hand folded by the daughter.  (1000 cranes often adorn Japanese wedding celebrations as a symbol of good luck for the happy couple.)

Simple, contemporary vases of orchids with gold branches and river rocks were selected for the cocktail area and a coordinating entry arrangement completed the theme.

Another special anniversary was the 20th for a couple whose wedding flowers we created in 1986. My, how time flies. The bride and wedding party had carried lavender roses so we thought it fitting to feature twenty of them in a romantic design, accented with purple hydranges for her.

She sent her husband flowers at work, too. (Unfortunately, the photo of his twenty red rose arrangement isn't available.)

We feel fortunate to have so many long-time customers and it has been a pleasure to represent them and their families for their many special occasions and 'just because' moments.

We often ask husband's and wives about their wedding flowers when designing anniversary arrangements. The women always remember their special blossoms, while responses from men generally range from 'I haven't a clue' to 'I think they were pink' with a few recalling their flowers in precise detail - but at least they remembered to send an arrangement to celebrate their special day.

One memorable anniversay card greeting was from a gentleman who said "Thanks for ten wonderful years of marriage." When I asked him if he hadn't just said he'd been married for fifteen he replied, "Yes, but ten of them were good. Five of them were only so-so." ;-)
